Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla met with the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Walid Fayyad to hold bilateral talks about supplying Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon, according to a press release issued by the petroleum ministry.
El Molla stated that the meeting sought to discuss the details and procedures for delivering Egyptian natural gas to Lebanon via Jordan and Syria.
A statement from the ministry also emphasized that bilateral cooperation is more of a strategic move than a commercial one. It is mainly aimed at giving Lebanon what it needs to keep stability and resolve its current energy crisis.
For his part, Fayyad expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s constant support to Lebanon, pointing out that the gas supply deal demonstrates a strategic relationship between both countries in the field of energy. He further elaborated that this deal is regarded as the cornerstone in resolving the energy crisis in Lebanon.
On the Egyptian side, the meeting was attended by Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company President Magdy Galal, Vice Chairman for Operations and Networks Yassin Ahmed, and Undersecretary for Technical Office Affairs Osama Mubarez. From the Lebanese side, the attendees included the General Director of Oil at the Ministry of Energy and Water Aurore Feghaly and the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Lebanon’s Electricity Company (EDL) Kamal Hayek.
