Egypt has leased the Energos Winter floating, storage, and regasification unit (FSRU) for five years, and the unit is expected to arrive at Damietta port by August this year.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has developed a comprehensive plan to upgrade and secure gas supply to meet the needs of the electricity, industrial, and economic sectors.

Egypt has connected three regasification units to SUMED and Sonker berths in Ain Sokhna port. The three units hold regasification capacity of 2,250 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/d), said Moataz Atef, Undersecretary of the Minister’s Technical Office and Official Spokesperson, Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, in an interview with Al Arabiya News Channel.

Atef told Al Arabiya that gas volumes entering the national grid fluctuate based on consumption levels. At the time of speaking, two units were delivering 1,200 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) of natural gas

Besides, Egypt has secured a backup source of natural gas through cooperation with Jordan.

The Jordanian port of Aqaba will receive Energos Force regasification unit, which once docked will be connected to the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP), making it possible to supply gas to countries connected by the pipeline. These include Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

The regasification unit has a capacity of  750 mmcf/d  and will provide an additional source for both countries by providing a new gateway to the national grids, enhancing their ability to respond to any emergency this summer.
