Egypt Delivers Natural Gas to 8M Housing Units in Nine Years

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has succeeded to deliver natural gas to 8 million housing units in nine years which represents 56% of the total number of houses connected to the natural gas grid since 1981 to reach 14.1 million houses.

According to a press release issued by the ministry to recount its achievements over the past nine years, the natural gas has replaced 143 million butane cylinders. It noted that butane consumption has declined from 4.2 million tons per year in the fiscal year (FY) 2015/16 to 3.5 million tons per year in FY 2022/23 thanks to the installment initiative provided by the ministry.

The ministry added that it targets to implement the infrastructure for the natural gas networks in 926 villages as first phase through Haya Karima (‘Decent Life’) initiative.

Moreover, the ministry executed and operated a number of main natural gas lines to boost the national grid with total length 1,234 km at a cost of EGP 19.5 billion.
