Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with Elkhan Polukhov Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Cairo, and his accompanying delegation, which included Zaur Hasanov, Director of Business Development at the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).
The meeting was attended by Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC); Moataz Atef, Undersecretary of the Ministry for the Minister’s Office and Technical Office and Official Spokesperson; Samir Raslan, the Ministry’s Undersecretary for Agreements and Exploration; and Osama El Samannoudi, Vice President of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) for Operations and Networks.
The meeting discussed opportunities for establishing a strategic partnership between Egypt and Azerbaijan in the field of oil and gas. They reviewed the capabilities of both sides to further foster this cooperation and exchange expertise for mutual benefit and enhancing economic partnership.
At the beginning of the meeting, Badawi expressed Egypt’s ambition for more diverse cooperation with Azerbaijan in the fields of energy, oil, and gas. He highlighted the importance of building on the strong political and economic relations between the two countries and leveraging the full support of the political leadership in both nations to strengthen this cooperation.
For his part, Polukhov emphasized that the strong political ties between the two countries strongly support the development and prosperity of trade and investment relations. Polukhov expressed his enthusiasm for starting cooperation in the energy sector and taking swift steps in that direction. He alsoo underscored the importance of exploring the potential for cooperation in renewable and green energy.
The Azerbaijani Ambassador extended an invitation to Badawi to attend the Oil and Gas Conference in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, early next June.
