Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has met Guido Brusco, Eni’s Chief Operating Officer of Natural Resources, to discuss the latest development of its fields in the East Mediterranean region.
The meeting focused on connecting the Cronos field in Cyprus to Egyptian facilities and then re-transporting the gas to foreign markets, a move that would boost Egypt’s role as a regional hub for energy transport and trade.
Talks took place on the sidelines of Gastech 2024 held in Houston, USA. The two parties explored accelerating the development and production plans for the oil and gas fields.
The meeting also touched on the ongoing cooperation and partnership between the two sides in the Damietta natural gas liquefaction plant, which is operated by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Eni.
Badawi emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the new incentive package launched by the ministry to boost crude oil and natural gas production. He noted that these incentives include new mechanisms, with their application tied to achieving production increases beyond current levels.
The Minister also stressed the importance of supporting cooperation with Eni in energy efficiency projects, benefiting from renewable energy resources, and reducing carbon from oil and gas sites.
For his part, Brusco stressed the importance of ongoing efforts to support energy cooperation with Egypt and strengthen ties in this field.
