EGPC Accelerates Western Desert Drilling to Drive Production Growth

Salah Abdel Kerim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), mandated strict adherence to drilling schedules and development timelines to secure sustainable production growth during an extensive field inspection of the North Bahariya Petroleum Company (NORPETCO), a subsidiary of EGPC, fields in the Western Desert.

During his tour of the EDC REG II rig and operational sites, Abdel Kerim highlighted the ongoing intensification of petroleum activities, particularly drilling and field development, as part of Egypt’s broader strategy to boost production.

He underscored that recent progress in settling partners’ arrears and improving the petroleum sector’s operational framework has helped create a more supportive investment environment.

The visit included an evaluation of operational performance to ensure a safe and sustainable working environment in line with international industrial standards. Discussions also covered the company’s future vision and key pillars to increase production, as well as the close monitoring of ongoing drilling and production activities to assess technical efficiency.

As part of the tour, Abdel Kerim inspected the solar power plant in the Ferdous area, which supports efforts to reduce reliance on diesel fuel, lower emissions, and advance environmental sustainability goals.

The Ferdous area is a producing oil field zone within NORPETCO’s concession in the North Bahariya (Western Desert). It is part of the company’s operated fields where drilling, production, and supporting infrastructure—such as the solar power station—are developed to enhance output and improve energy efficiency.

Abdel Karim concluded the tour by meeting with field engineers and technical staff, alongside NORPETCO Chairman Ahmed Salah, to emphasize operational safety and efficiency standards.

NORPETCO is an Egyptian oil company operating in the Western Desert, primarily in the North Bahariya and East Bahariya concession areas, where it focuses on oil exploration, development, and production under the umbrella of the EGPC.
