EGAS Stops Gas Supply to 78% of Fertilizer Factories During Ramadan

The Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) suspended gas supply pumping to 80% of fertilizer plants of dense fuel consumption in Egypt.

This step was taken due to the increase in the power stations’ fuel consumption because of high temperatures.

An official at EGAS told Daily News Egypt that, since the beginning of Ramadan, gas supply was suspended to the plants of Apec, Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO), Helwan, Al-Masriya 1 and Al-Masriya 2, Alexandria, El-Nasr for Fertilizers and Chemical industries.

Fuel supply to these plants will remain suspended until the end of Ramadan, to be able to provide power stations with the required amounts of gas, in order to prevent power outages.

The official said that EGAS pumps approximately 205m cubic feet of gas daily to the Abu Qir and Talkha plants, affiliated to the public sector. This is out of the total of 600m cubic feet required by fertiliser plants, after adding MOPCO’s two new production lines.
