Morocco will receive a $37,5m loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to boost the hydropower sector in the country.

The Office National de l’Electricite et de l’Eau Potable (ONEE) will use the cash to finance a rehabilitation programme of 12 small and medium-sized hydro plants, specifically to extend the life of the facilities and increase their energy efficiency, EnergyLiveNews reported.

The loan is already the third transaction between the EBRD and ONEE since 2012. The EBRD has also provided technical assistance to 200 local small and medium-sized enterprises, according to RenewablesBiz.com.
