Cyprus Mail quoted Cypriot Energy Minister Giorgos Lakkotrypis recommending building a pipeline to connect Cyprus’ Aphrodite filed to Egypt’s newly-discovered Zohr gas field, instead of laying a pipeline straight from the Aphrodite reservoir to Egypt.

The distance  between Aphrodite to Zohr is approximately 90km, making this “Plan B” according to Lakkotrypis both “faster and cheaper.”

Under this scenario, the facilities will be built on top of the Zohr site to receive the imported gas, and combine it with Zohr’s production, transferring them via a single pipeline to onshore Egypt.
