China Issued Sentences over 2013 Oil Pipeline Explosion

China has sentenced 14 officials at Sinopec, the China’s state energy firm, and the local government for up to five years in jail in connection with the 2013 oil pipeline explosion, Reuters reported quoting the official Xinhua news agency.

In the explosion, 63 people were killed, 156 injured, with biggest damage to the Chinese infrastructure development incurring losses of $117.53 m.

The accused were found guilty of violating safety regulations, despite the fact that the Chinese government had previously referred the causes of the deadly incident to corrosion and irregular maintenance work at the site.
