Iraq’s Ministry of Oil has signed an agreement with US energy company Chevron to provide technical consultancy services to the Basra Oil Company (BOC) during negotiations over the development of the West Qurna-2 oilfield, the Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.
The agreement was signed under the auspices of Iraqi Minister of Oil Basim Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi.
According to the ministry, Chevron will provide technical advice to BOC throughout the negotiation period concerning the development of West Qurna-2.
The agreement comes as Iraq and Chevron advance discussions over the US company’s potential role in developing West Qurna-2, one of Iraq’s major oilfields. In February 2026, Chevron and Iraq’s Oil Ministry were negotiating to acquire the field.
