Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has held a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to discuss Canada’s business activities and growing investment interest in Egypt’s promising mining industry.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of Badawi’s participation in the 19th Francophonie Summit in Paris, on behalf of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
During the meeting, Badawi highlighted the importance of joint cooperation and negotiations with Barrick Gold to agree on a model gold exploitation contract, noting that Egypt supports and takes important steps to attract a number of major international companies to the mining market in Egypt.
The Minister pointed out that work is underway to implement a regulatory framework to create an attractive investment climate in the mining sector. This platform will be supported by the launch of the Egypt Mining Portal as a digital investment platform, which will be launched by the end of this year.
The meeting reviewed the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) commitment to fostering new mining investments by year’s end. This includes exploring innovative investment mechanisms and the launch of a dedicated digital mining portal. The Ministry’s goal is to incentivize development in the mineral sector, ultimately boosting economic returns.
