Building Capacity for the Future: Egypt Oil & Gas Workshop Gathers Industry Leaders for Digitalization Push

Under the high patronage of the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, Egypt Oil & Group has launched “Digital Transformation: Accelerating Efficiency in Oil & Gas Operations,” a two-day workshop aimed at exploring the potential of digital solutions in optimizing the performance of Egypt’s oil and gas industry.

Technically prepared by the Egypt Oil & Gas Committee, the workshop hosted by Enppi comes as part of a sector-wide effort to build capacities and further examine the key gains that the digital transformation has to offer. Mohamed Fouad, the Founder and CEO of the workshop’s organizer, Egypt Oil & Gas Group, pointed out that the efforts within the sector to effectively integrate cutting-edge digital technologies can eventually become a model for parts of the economy, indicating the importance of this workshop as an ideal platform to share and discuss innovative ideas. “The oil and gas sector with its Modernization Program, specifically in digitalization, is a key model that other sectors could follow. We need to start working together more extensively to create more awareness and ensure our efforts are actually being seen.” 

For his part, Chairman and CEO of Enppi Wael Lotfy said, “During this two-day event, we will explore the transformative power of digital technology to optimize operations, enhance productivity, and sustain growth by integrating technology, such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), data analytics and automation.” 

The workshop covered a wide array of topics, case studies, best practices, and strategies that accelerate the digitalization process. Presentations for the first day included “Petroleum Sector: Decision Support Model” by Karim Soliman from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; “Introducing Digital Tools to Attract New E&P Investments” by Manar Helal, Business Continuity Manager at Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG); “Driving Energy Sector Excellence with AI’s Innovation” by Saleh Al-Nemer, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Architect at Hewlett Packard Enterprise; “Leading ICT to Accelerate O&G Intelligence” by Wang Hao, Managing Director for North Africa Energy at Huawei; Grid Modernization” Dr. Joerg Klose, Associate Partner/Global Industry Leader for Energy, Environment, and Utilities at IBM Consulting; “IFS Operational Intelligence & APM” by Cyrus Morab Principal Architect at IFS Assets; “How IFS Transformed AmeriGas Fuel Services Productivity” by Mustafa Al Riyami, IFS Consultant; “Production Assurance by Leverage Physics and Data-Driven Models and Capital Asset Performance Optimization” by Ola Hussein, Production Engineer at SLB alongside the company’s Senior Production Engineer Ahmed Maher; “Innovative Real-Time Monitoring and Autonomous Workflows- Improving Safety and Efficiency in Drilling Operations” by Abdalla Abouelazm, Digital Drilling Engineer at SLB; “Agile Projects Success Stories and Way forward to increase Operational Efficiency” by Mohamed Hussein, Senior Petroleum Engineer at GUPCO, was the tenth presentation of the day (presented with Ola Hussein, a Production Engineer at SLB); and “Well Integrity Management System” by Azzumar Razali, Drilling Sales Advisor at Halliburton Kuwait.
