Eng. Sameh Fahmy, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, received Mr. David Lesar, President and Chief Executive Officer of Halliburton, during his visit to Egypt within the framework of a working tour in the Arab countries which also includes Iraq and Algeria.
Fahmy indicated that he discussed with Lesar the mechanisms for future cooperation and global support between the Egyptian oil sector and the company, and the possibility of establishing cooperation between the two sides during the coming period to work outside Egypt in the oil and gas projects so as to contribute to open new horizons for the Egyptian oil companies to expand their activities abroad. As a result, the Egyptian oil and gas sector’s revenues will be increased so as to maximize the value added following the great success of these companies during the last period in the implementation of major projects in other countries, major oil producers inside and outside OPEC.
Moreover, the minister said that the talks touched on the possibility of making use of the
advanced technologies and expertise possessed by the company in extracting the
natural gas from Tafla layers which are available in large quantities in Egypt, according to the global companies’ expectations. Hence, it will contribute to the increase the reserves of natural gas in Egypt as it was in the United States, where a growing successful reliance on this source of energy, non-traditional, was achieved.
On the other hand, Cairo is scheduled to host next week a major international symposium on IT of Extracting natural gas from the layers of Tafla under the auspices of Halliburton with contribution of delegation of officials as well as the attendance of 250 specialists in this field worldwide.
