During a visit to Ras Gharib, Red Sea Governorate, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi inspected the MDC4 onshore drilling rig operated by Modern Drilling Company.
The rig is currently drilling the Gharib Well 277 production development well for the General Petroleum Company (GPC).
The well is planned to be put on production within two weeks after the completion of drilling work at a production rate of about 200 barrels per day (bbl/d).
Badawi reviewed plans to intensify drilling using modern technologies, optimize the number of drilling rigs, and rationalize spending. He also discussed maximizing oil tank utilization and thanked the site workers.
The Minister was briefed on GPC’s current and future plans. Mohamed Abdel Mageed, GPC’s Chairman explained how GPC successfully commissioned the new offshore production platform GG 83/3 after completing construction, installation, and production line connections.
The first two wells have been put on production with a total of about 1,000 bbl/d of oil, and the third well is being drilled, as it is planned to drill two wells on the same platform so that the planned production from the new platform reaches about 2,200 barrels per day over the next three months.
