Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, reviewed the operating position of the national natural gas network and the plans to secure supplies during the second half of summer.

Badawi inspected operations from the national gas network control center at the Egyptian Natural Gas Company (GASCO), focusing on supplies to electricity generation plants and other major consumers.

The minister was also briefed on gas deliveries to power plants amid high temperatures and soaring electricity demand. He also followed supplies to industrial facilities to support continued operations, alongside domestic consumption and export commitments.

Moreover, Badawi said the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) is implementing plans to secure gas supplies and respond to changes in consumption. He added that the ministry is maintaining readiness to address any emergencies .

Measures including the deployment of regasification vessels, LNG cargoes, higher domestic production, and advance supply planning helped meet local gas demand during the first half of summer, according to Badawi.

Also, the minister stressed continued coordination between the petroleum and electricity sectors and other relevant authorities to maintain energy supplies. He called for real-time monitoring of network operations, consumption levels, and gas flows.

Last month, Badawi said the MoPMR had fully secured natural gas supplies for the local market during a peak in summer consumption driven by high temperatures.

The minister made the remarks during an inspection of the National Advanced Transmission and Automation Centre (NATA) at GASCO’s headquarters, where he reviewed the national gas network and fuel supplies to the electricity sector.
