Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has held a meeting with Brad Crabtree, Assistant Secretary for the US Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM).
During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the depth of relations and close cooperation between Egypt and the United States, especially in the field of energy.
The meeting is a part of a series of meetings conducted by Badawi on the sidelines of his participation in the Gastech 2024 conference in the American city of Houston.
Badawi praised the pioneering role of American energy companies operating in the Egyptian oil and gas sector.
The meeting discussed enhancing cooperation between the two sides in preparing regulations and laws related to carbon capture, use and storage, as well as implementing pilot projects using carbon dioxide gas that will be captured.
The two sides also highlighted the importance of investments in the oil and gas sector, increasing investment by American companies, and enhancing cooperation and partnership with the aim of increasing production and accelerating exploration, while working together to reduce carbon emissions.
The meeting further reviewed the importance of enhancing energy efficiency and working to localize modern technology. Badawi pointed out the ministry’s interest in energy efficiency projects as an important priority for the petroleum sector with the aim of saving diesel and petroleum products consumption, which has a positive impact on the environment and reducing the import bill for these products.
