Within the framework of strengthening management and supporting the ministry’s strategic objectives,Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, has announced new leadership appointments at two of the sector’s key state-owned companies.
The minister appointed Mohamed Ahmed Atef Hassan as Executive Vice President for Foreign Trade at the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) and a member of its executive board. Hassan, who holds a PhD in Decision Support from Helwan University, has served in several leadership positions in the sector, including Assistant Chairman for the General Secretariat and Shareholders’ Affairs at the Middle East Oil Refinery (MIDOR) in 2020, and later Vice President for Planning and Follow-up in 2025.
Furthermore, Nasser Mohamed Shoman has been named Vice President for Supervision of Foreign and Joint Venture Companies at Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope). A commerce graduate of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Shoman has held senior roles within the sector. His most recent positions include Chairman of Cooperation Petroleum Company in 2023, Head of the Central Department for Transport and Marketing at the Ministry of Petroleum, and Executive Vice President of EGPC for Foreign Trade and member of its executive board
This round of appointments is part of a broader reshuffle undertaken by Badawi since the start of the year, aimed at injecting fresh expertise into leadership roles to drive operational efficiency and align the petroleum sector with Egypt’s long-term energy strategy.
