Badawi Calls for Regional Cooperation at MOC

During his speech at the opening ceremony of the Mediterranean Offshore Conference (MOC), Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi highlighted the importance of exploiting this remarkable event as a platform to promote the Egyptian petroleum sector developments, challenges, and unlock the promising potential of the Mediterranean region.

He noted the necessity of working together as a key to success.We meet here for more dialogue, exchange experiences, and work together to unleash potential, accelerate research and exploration, and achieve sustainability for us and future generations. We are committed to boosting cooperation with all partners, as positive cooperation between the countries of the region is not only important for the region but for the entire world,Badawi said.

The minister mentioned that decarbonization endeavors are one of the conference’s interests and the sector well, noting that Egypt is working on reaching a sustainable and diverse energy mix to achieve Egypt’s Vision 2030.

He also pointed out that the state is working to create an attractive investment environment to discover untapped resources in the Mediterranean, in light of the available infrastructure. Additionally, Badawi stressed that human capacity is the pillar on which the industry relies to achieve the target goals.

For his part, the Minister of Energy of Cyprus George Papanastasiou said that Egypt is an important partner that supports the fair goals of exploiting the natural resources of the Mediterranean. He added that his country is working on allocating a significant portion of its resources to accelerate the development of its natural gas fields and connect them to Egypt’s gas infrastructure.

At the end of his speech, Badawi honored the Former Spokesman of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) Hamdy Abdel Aziz who supported petroleum work policies and was an efficient voice and image for the sector that speaks in times of challenges and good times alike.

Meanwhile, Thomas Maher, the CEO of Apex International Energy, provided a presentation during the conference opening explaining that the MOC conference is a technical conference concerned with the continuous development of the future of the petroleum industry, modern technologies, the exchange of expertise and strategic partnerships, attracting investments, supporting efforts to increase production, facing challenges, and improving regional cooperation through the visions of industry leaders and experts.
