Alexandria Mineral Oils Company (AMOC) has completed the mechanical works for its Acid Gas Treatment Project, including the installation of equipment and instruments and the required testing procedures, according to the company’s disclosure to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX).

The unit is currently undergoing trial operations as the company works to stabilize operating conditions, monitor equipment performance, and assess laboratory results for the treated gases, AMOC said.

The project, with estimated cost of $250,000, is designed to process acid gases from the MDDU unit instead of sending them to the acid flare system. It is expected  to reduce carbon emissions by around 28,500 tons annually (t/y) and generate estimated annual savings of around $2.5 million through lower natural gas consumption.

Furthermore, AMOC has completed a production trial for Group II base oils, as part of its ‘s strategy to expand the production of high-quality base oils and enhance its competitiveness in both local and international markets. Base oil is the main raw material used to manufacture lubricants, such as engine oils, industrial lubricants and other specialty oils.

AMOC noted the new production capability will diversify its product portfolio and provide greater flexibility in production and marketing.

“The successful production of Group ll oils represents a significant strategic milestone that adds substantial value to the Company’s product portfolio and aligns with global developments in the lubricants industry. Group Il oils offer superior characteristics compared to Group 1 oils, including lower sulfur content higher saturates levels, viscosity index (VI), and improved properties,” noted AMOC’s disclosure .

Established in May 1997 as an Egyptian joint stock company, AMOC produces a range of petroleum products, including base oils, transformer oil, automatic transmission fluids, fully refined solid and liquid paraffin wax, low-sulfur gas oil, naphtha, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and fuel oil blends.
