Aminex spuds South Malak-1 well in Egypt

Aminex has announced the spudding of the South Malak-1 well on its West Esh el Mellaha (‘WEEM-2’) permit in the onshore Gulf of Suez area of Egypt. The well should take around three weeks to drill.

South Malak-1 will be a vertical well and planned total depth is 2,775 metres (9,100 feet), aimed at testing Miocene and Pre-Miocene sands in the Nukhul, Matulla and Nubian formations, as well as fractured basement. The prospect is a rifted fault block structural trap.

South Malak-1 is the third well in a three-well programme due to be completed this year. Aminex has a 10% beneficial, carried interest in this well through its shareholding in Aminex Petroleum Egypt Ltd.
