Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemical Industries Company has increased production capacities at Abu Qir Plant 3, lifting ammonia output by approximately 140 tons per day (t/d) and expanding granular urea capacity by around 100 t/d.

The company reported a reduction in the natural gas consumption required for operations at the plant, according to a disclosure submitted to the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) .

Abu Qir Fertilizers said the improvements at Plant 3 contribute to more efficient utilization of its assets while strengthening the company’s competitive position.

The company did not disclose the previous or current total production capacities of the ammonia and granular urea plants.

Abu Qir Plant 3, commissioned in 1988, is designed to expand the company’s production capacity in nitrogen fertilizers, particularly granular urea containing 46.5% nitrogen. The plant comprises an ammonia production unit with a design capacity of 1,200 t/d and a granular urea production unit with a design capacity of 1,750 t/d.

Established in 1976, Abu Qir Fertilizers is one of Egypt’s largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers.

The company reported a 119% year-on-year (YoY) surge in net profit after tax for the first half (H1) of fiscal year (FY) 2025/26, reaching EGP 10.01 billion. It also recorded an 86% YoY increase in revenues to EGP 23.52 billion.

During the period, export volumes expanded by 31%, lifting export revenues by 97% through entry into new international markets and higher average selling prices across both domestic and overseas markets.
