11 Firms Compete to Set Up Omani Dual Fuel-Fired Power Plant

A total of eleven companies are in the race for a key consultancy contract for the 120 MW Musandam independent power project (IPP) in Oman, said a report.

The tender was floated by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) in February to select the consultant who will have to provide project management and technical consultancy services for the IPP, reported the Oman Tribune.

A joint venture between Oman Oil Company and LG International, Musandam Power Company, aims to set up a dual-fuel fired power plant at Tibat in Musandam which is expected to be operational by 2016 end, the report said.

Those in the fray are Atlas International Engineering Consultants, Tractebel Engineering, Jacobs CES, AF Consultants, Electricite De France, Engineering Innovation Design and Consulting, Moneco Consulting Engineers, Consolidated Consultants, Ramboll, Value Engineering Centre and Mott Macdonald and Company.

The project will be implemented on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis and OPWP would purchase the power. The project was envisaged to meet the current and future power demand in Musandam.
