WEPCO Lifts Badr-1 Oil Production Tenfold through New Drilling technologies

The Western Desert Operating Petroleum Company (WEPCO) has successfully increased crude oil production at the Badr-1 field to over 7,500 barrels per day (bbl/d), representing a more than tenfold increase from the 800 bbl/d recorded when the company first assumed management of the site. The achievement was highlighted by Mohamed Elghamry, Senior Exploration Geophysicist at Badr Petroleum Company—a subsidiary of WEPCO—during a recent episode of the Petrocast podcast.

Kemet Seeks Chinese expertise to Localize Renewable Industries

Egypt’s Kemet has signed two major cooperation agreements and one memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of renewable energy and energy storage with leading Chinese companies, according to the Cabinet. The signings were witnessed by Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy as part of his visit to China since Thursday.

President El-Sisi Reviews Energy and Mining Developments with Badawi

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi to review key files related to Egypt’s energy and mining sectors.

 The meeting focused on the ministry’s efforts to advance Egypt’s strategy of becoming a regional hub for energy and gas trading. Discussions covered the progress of seismic surveys by land, air, and sea, as well as plans to expand oil and gas exploration both onshore and offshore. The talks  also included diversifying gas supply sources and offering incentives to exploration companies to strengthen Egypt’s attractiveness to global investors, according to the presidential Spokesperson, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy

The President was briefed on the coordination between the petroleum and electricity ministries to secure gas supplies for the summer of 2026. He also reviewed developments in Egypt’s mining sector, including geological reserves and investment indicators.

Egypt, Eni Discuss Plans to Boost Gas Production

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, met with a high-level delegation from Italy’s energy giant Eni to review the company’s operations in Egypt and discuss plans to drill new natural gas wells in the Mediterranean.

Discussions focused on the execution of current projects and the timeline for increasing gas and crude oil output from Eni’s concessions in the Mediterranean and Western Desert. The meeting also explored ways to leverage Eni’s technical expertise and advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency of existing wells.

The delegation included Diego Portoghese, Head of North Africa and Levant, Francesco Gaspari, General Manager of the International  Egyptian Oil Company (IEOC),  Eni’s Egyptian subsidiary, and Mahmoud Abou El-Yazid, Deputy General Manager of Eni in Egypt.​ 

Egypt Boosts Oil and Gas Output with New Discoveries

Khalda  Petroleum, General Petroleum Company (GPC) and Disouq Petroleum Company (DISOUCO) have successfully drilled a number of productive wells across their concession areas in the Western Desert, Eastern Desert, and Nile Delta, adding around 47 million cubic feet of gas(mncf/d) and 4,300 barrels  (bbl/d) of oil and condensates to the national output.

The drilling operations, which include five fresh exploration wells, come as part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoMPR)’s strategy to raise production and intensify drilling and exploration programs, according to a statement by the ministry.

Badawi Promotes Egypt’s Mining Reforms to Global Investors in Riyadh

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, opened a Future Minerals Forum  (FMF) session in Riyadh showcasing Egypt’s mining reforms, investment incentives, and upstream opportunities to international investors and executives. The presentation marks Egypt's shift from planning mining reforms to executing them, backed by legislative updates and streamlined licensing, according to a Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR) statement.

Egypt Seeks World Bank Support to Boost Mining Sector

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, discussed with Robert Schlotterer, World Bank (WB) Group Metals and Minerals Practice Manager, possible cooperation with the bank's entities -like the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)- in financing exploration activities, risk management, and private sector expansion. 

The talks, taking place during the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, included means to help  Egypt achieve its goal of lifting the mining sector's contribution to gross domestic product (GDP)  from 1% to 5-6%, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR).

SLB Eyes Lithium Extraction in Egypt

SLB  expressed interest to start assessment of lithium potential and its extraction in Egypt, and to conduct new pilot tests in the Eastern Desert. This came during a meeting of SLB's Head of Mining, Nicholas Lugansky, with Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) in Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, Lugansky presented  SLB's strategic shift toward mining since 2024, noting that the company applies its oilfield expertise and technologies to critical minerals exploration, particularly lithium, to support the global energy transition.

Badawi Meets Barrick Gold, Lotus Gold, and BHP on Mining Investment in Egypt

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with senior executives from Canada's Barrick Gold and Lotus Gold, and Australia’s BHP on the sidelines of the Future Minerals Forum, to discuss upcoming gold and mineral exploration programs, joint investment opportunities, and ways to leverage Egypt’s mining reforms to attract long-term international investment.

Petroleum Minister Urges Africa Toward Value-Added Mining

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, called for transforming Africa’s mineral riches into integrated industries instead of raw material exports to drive employment and development. This came during a roundtable titled Africa: Unlocking Infrastructure Funding for Copper Belt Production at the Future Minerals Forum(FMF) in Riyadh.
