Ministers Badawi, Esmat Review Strategy to Meet Rising Energy Needs

The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met on Monday with the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, to discuss and review the work plan in light of developments and ongoing preparations to meet the rising demand for energy amid soaring temperatures.

Parliament Approves Contract for Centamin Mining in Sukari

The Egyptian Parliament gave final approval to a draft law, permitting the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to contract with the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority and Centamin Company. The purpose of this contract is to exploit gold ore and associated minerals in the Sukari area.

Badawi Leads Field Visit to Begonia-2 Well in Dakahlia Governorate

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and his accompanying delegation conducted a field visit to Dakahlia Governorate, specifically to the Begonia-2 well. The well is located within the New Manzala concession area, which is operated by El Wastani Petroleum Company (WASCO) in partnership with Dana Gas.

Fifth Floating Regasification Unit to Join Egypt’s Gas Grid via Aqaba Port

Egypt has secured an additional source of natural gas through cooperation with Jordan, according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources. 

The Jordanian port of Aqaba will receive the Energos Force regasification unit, which once docked will be connected to the Arab Gas Pipeline (AGP), making it possible to supply gas to countries connected by the pipeline. These include Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Significant market demand was seen for the recently-closed bidding round for strategic exploration blocks spanning the Mediterranean Sea, Gulf of Suez, and Western Desert. Global and private-sector companies submitted multiple proposals for concessions such as Rahmat, under the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS); North July, under the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC); and three blocks from Ganoub El Wadi Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope): North El Baraka, East Gebel El Zeit, and Southeast Ras El Ash.

Ministry of Petroleum Leads Rescue After Gulf of Suez Marine Barge Capsize

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources immediately activated its emergency plan following the incident involving the marine barge Admarine 12, deploying sector rescue teams in the Gulf of Suez and mobilising all maritime and aerial resources, including vessels, rescue equipment, and aircraft, to assist in the rescue of the crew and coordinate with state authorities to ensure the swift recovery of survivors.

Khalda’s new drilling system Saved 60 days and $3mn in Operational Costs in 2024

Khalda Petroleum Company, partnering with international energy firm Apache, has optimized oil and gas well drilling operations in the Western Desert resulting in a cost reduction of $3 million and the connection of 110 wells. Khalda reduced the average drill pipe connection time from 24 minutes to 18 minutes, with some well recording 12.5 minutes. Following this momentum, the company drilled 54 wells in the first half of 2025 reaching an additional 15%-time efficiency gain compared to 2024. This yielded a further 180-day reduction in overall drilling time and over $15 million in cost savings.

El Sewedy Capital Signs MoU for Phosphate Exploration in El-Sebaeya Mines

The Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with El Sewedy Capital Investments. The MoU aims to establish a partnership for the exploration, exploitation, and production of phosphate ore in the Nile Valley region (El-Sebaeya mines), in addition to increasing the concentration of the ore and preparing a feasibility study for establishing a factory to produce phosphate fertilizers.
