WOTECH Supports Petroleum Sector Efforts to Limit Pollution

The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stated that Wood Technology Company (WOTECH) is one of its most important petrochemical projects to achieve value-addition and economic revenue, according to a press release.

The project’s investments reached EUR 217 million and was created by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), Sidi Keriri Petrochemicals Company (SIDPEC), and Petrojet in Al Bahira governorate.

It is contributing to reducing pollution emitted from unsafe elimination of rice straw and using it in producing medium-density fibreboard (MDF) wood which can cover part of the local market demand in addition to offering several job opportunities.

WOTECH’s production capacity reaches to 205,000 cubic meters per year by using around 250,000 tons of rice straw and it uses the latest technology according to the European standards.

WOTECH, which was established in October 2019, supports the efforts of the petroleum ministry to find solutions to help limiting environmental pollution that resulted from burning of rice straw.
