Western Desert Operating Petroleum Company (WEPCO) held a community consultation session to assess the environmental impact of the project to build four crude oil storage tanks in the Al Hamra Petroleum Port expansion area.
This comes within the framework of the general policy of the state adopted by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the directives of Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi to transform Egypt into a strategic regional center for energy trading,
The session activities began with a speech by Ibrahim Massoud, WEPCO Chairman and Managing Director, who welcomed all the attendees. Massoud stated that WEPCO is one of the oldest companies in the Egyptian petroleum sector, as it was established in 1963.
Massoud shed light on the work axes undertaken by WEPCO to achieve the strategic objectives of the Crude Oil and Petroleum Products Trading Center in the Hamra Port area and its expansions. During the past period, work was done to support the port’s infrastructure by focusing on developing safety and automatic control systems, and tanker mooring and loading systems.
Additionally, Massoud explained what the current and future work axes include in terms of projects to increase crude oil trading capacities to reach a storage capacity of about 7.8 million barrels, in addition to petroleum products trading activities projects with a capacity of about 400,000 tons.
Meanwhile, Abdel Fattah Mohamed, a member of the Parliament, also spoke, highlighting the importance of the project and the economic returns it will bring to Egypt. He praised the development work he saw at Al Hamra Petroleum Port. Mohamed further stated that this comes within the framework of unprecedented development plans undertaken by the new republic in all fields.
