Vår Energi, a joint venture (JV) company between Eni (69.85%) and HitecVision (30.15%), has made a new significant oil discovery in the offshore Norway ,in the northern North Sea, by drilling the exploration well 31/2-22 S in the Blasto Main prospect, according to a statement published on Eni website.
The size of the discovery is estimated to be within 150-240 million barrels of oil equivalent (mmbbloe) in place. The well is located 7.5 kilometers (km) southwest of the nearest Fram Field template, and 12 km north of the Troll C Platform. It was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,282 meters below sea level and reached total depth in the Jurassic Fensfjord Formation.
The well encountered a total of an 80-meter light oil column found in two separate intervals of the Jurassic Sognefjord formation sandstones in the Upper and lower Sognefjord.
This new discovery is expected to be developed alongside the nearby Echino South discovery and both of them will be tied into the nearby infrastructures. Exploration activity is set to continue in the area in 2021.
