US to Expand CCS, Natural Gas Projects in Egypt

In a meeting with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla, US Assistant Secretary for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt expressed his country’s desire to boost its energy activities in Egypt, especially in carbon capture and storage (CCS) and natural gas projects.

Pyatt noted that Egypt has an ideal infrastructure to become a regional energy hub and has great capabilities as well as good opportunities in all energy fields.

The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of COP27, also discussed the activities of US oil and gas companies working in Egypt. El Molla highlighted the promising opportunities for such companies to increase their investments, especially in the exploration and production (E&P) field in addition to improving operational efficiency.

El Molla pointed out that cooperation between the two sides is taking good steps and there is support from US companies working in Egypt especially the American Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, he expressed his appreciation for US support for the establishment of the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF) in 2018 which enables the optimum utilization of natural gas discovered in the region.
