Third FSRU Delayed until Further Notice

Third FSRU Delayed until Further Notice

The Egyptian Minister of Petroleum, Tarek El Molla, announced the  postponement of the third floating and storage regasification unit (FSRU) with a capacity of 750mcf/d of liquefied gas, reported Daily News Egypt.  El Molla did not confirm a certain date until which the FSRU’s tender is delayed as it is postponed until there is a need for higher gas provisions.

El Molla said that the results from the reassessment of gas projects to connect production to the national grid stating that the local market does not need to increase gas imports in 2017. The minister added: “Natural gas projects and the imported amounts through the two gasification ships and the Jordan line will be sufficient for the local market’s needs.”

At the beginning of November, an official with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) had stated that Egypt would postpone contracting the third (FSRU)  for one month as it was pending the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity to decide on its needs of  liquefied natural gas (LNG) used for power generation.
