SPE Egypt Launches Workshop on Energy Innovation

SPE Egypt Launches Workshop on Energy Innovation

A high-level workshop organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)has kicked off on April 28, focusing on innovative strategies to maximize Egypt’s petroleum and gas reserves. The workshop is part of the SPE Egypt’s  Golden Jubilee celebrations and was attended by  Jennifer Miskimins,  SPE President, and Said Abd El Moniem, SPE Egypt Chairperson.

The first day’s activities included a panel discussion that addressed the evolution of Egypt’s energy landscape and the  potential of achieving sustainable growth in production and reserves. It also highlighted  strengthening of Egypt’s position as a regional energy hub by fostering a stable and attractive investment environment, balancing economic growth with sustainability goals, and the dynamic pillars of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy that support these objectives.

Morevoer,  the event hosted two technical sessions showcasing success stories in enhancing exploration and production operations, during which several young professionals delivered presentations on specialized topics.

The opening session showcased strategic exploration and sustainability milestones, headlined by the implementation of high-definition seismic surveys at the Meleiha fields in the Western Desert. Presentations detailed Egypt’s largest four-dimensional (4D) seismic survey in the Mediterranean to unlock future hydrocarbon potential, alongside the deployment of advanced Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) technology. Furthermore, Haitham Abou Hadeed from Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company (GUPCO) highlighted intensified exploration activities aimed at bolstering production in the Gulf of Suez.

During the second session, a presentation was delivered on exploring hydrocarbon potential in the Al Wasl field in Egypt’s Gulf of Suez, a case study for making strategic decisions to test a new exploration concept. Another presentation highlighted the success story of unlocking hydrocarbon potential in the GNN reservoir in the southern Gulf of Suez. Meanwhile, the session included a presentation on enhancing gas production from the Nidoco area in the Mediterranean.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)  stands as the world’s largest individual-member organization dedicated to managers, engineers, scientists, and professionals within the upstream segment of the oil and gas industry.

By providing a global platform for technical knowledge exchange, the SPE delivers unique contributions to the energy profession through its diverse programs, publications, and professional development activities. While its headquarters is in the US, it has 198 branches worldwide, including SPE Egypt.
