Saudi Arabia Raises East-West Pipeline Oil Flows Above 80% Capacity

Saudi Arabia has raised oil flows through its East-West Pipeline to more than 80% of capacity, increasing crude available for export from the kingdom’s Red Sea coast as domestic refinery demand falls.

Saudi Aramco is pumping close to 6 million barrels per day through the 7 million-barrel-per-day pipeline, according to a person familiar with the matter. After supplies to refineries on Saudi Arabia’s west coast, about 4.5 million barrels per day is available for export, the person said.

Aramco and the Saudi energy ministry did not respond to requests for comment outside normal working hours.

The company has rapidly increased flows after operating at around half capacity earlier this week. The pipeline has helped Saudi Arabia maintain exports during the Iran war by moving crude toward the Red Sea without relying on the Strait of Hormuz.

The route came under pressure last month when projectiles launched from Iraq forced the pipeline to halt operations. Saudi Arabia responded by increasing shipments through Hormuz, while the return of Yanbu loadings has supported a broader recovery in the kingdom’s oil exports.

The latest increase follows the September 22 restart of the pipeline. On September 30, it was reported that Saudi Arabia had resumed crude and refined-product loadings from Yanbu after the restart, with Aramco notifying customers of its October loading schedule. At the time, industry sources estimated pipeline throughput at about 2 million barrels per day, while Kpler estimated 2.65 million barrels per day and expected flows to reach 3 million to 4 million barrels per day.
