Saipem, the global engineering company, and China’s Offshore Oil Engineering Co (COOEC), have secured a $4 billion offshore engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contract from QatarEnergy LNG for the COMP5 package of the North Field Production Sustainability (NFPS) Offshore Compression Complexes project.
The award, with Saipem’s share valued at about $3.1 billion, covers two compression complexes to sustain long-term natural gas output from the world’s largest non-associated gas field offshore Qatar, according to a press release by Saipem. Offshore installation work will use Saipem’s Saipem 7000 heavy-lift vessel in 2029 and 2030 under the five-year contract.
The North Field Production Sustainability project forms a core element of QatarEnergy LNG’s strategy to maintain and boost output from the supergiant reserve. This COMP5 award builds on prior Saipem contracts for COMP2 and COMP3 packages, awarded in October 2022 and September 2024, strengthening the company’s role in Qatar’s major offshore developments.
COMP5 is a specific offshore compression contract package including EPCI, and two offshore compression complexes, each consisting of a compression platform and, living quarters platform. a flare platform for gas combustion and safety, and interconnecting bridges between platforms, designed to maintain long-term gas production at Qatar’s North Field.
Saipem, an Italy-headquartered engineering and construction firm listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, operates in more than 50 countries with around 30,000 employees across offshore, onshore, and sustainable infrastructure projects.
