Petroleum Minister Outlines Sector’s Priorities at Nation’s Future Party Symposium

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, emphasized that the top priority of the petroleum sector’s current work plan is to ensure the continued supply of petroleum products and gas to meet the daily needs of citizens.

This came during the Minister‘s participation in the Nation’s Future Party symposium held at the party’s central secretariat headquarters.

During the symposium, Badawi gave a presentation on the main axes of the ministry’s strategy and work plan during the current stage and the priorities of the next stage.

These priorities include 6 main work axes, which include ways to stimulate increased production and intensify research and exploration operations in cooperation with sector partners from international companies; maximizing the benefit and achieving added value from petroleum wealth and infrastructure; and achieving a major shift in the mining sector’s contributions to the gross domestic product.

These priorities also include enhancing regional cooperation by exploiting Egypt’s distinguished geographical location and advanced infrastructure; in addition to working cooperatively with the Electricity Ministry to increase the contribution of new and renewable energies to the energy mix with the aim of providing petroleum wealth for value-added industries; as well as enhancing the culture of energy efficiency, occupational safety and health, and reducing emissions.

Badawi noted that international oil and gas companies have shown great commitment to their projects in Egypt despite the challenges, as there are 57 international companies in Egypt, which confirms that the oil and gas sector in Egypt is a promising sector with great investment opportunities.

The minister stated that work is underway to stimulate the entry and participation of Egyptian investors from various fields and industries to invest in the oil and gas sector.
