Oil Minister: Shell in Talks with Iraq over Majnoon

Negotiations between Royal Dutch Shell and Iraq over the Majnoon oilfield are continuing, the Iraqi Minister of Oil, Jabbar El Luaibi, said at a news conference on Sunday, Reuters reports.

“There are still negotiations, things are not clear,” El Luaibi noted at the news conference.

Earlier this month Reuters reported that Shell was pulling out of the field and handing over its operations to the Iraqi government.

The company has a 45% stake in Majnoon, according to Reuters. Production from the field is approximately 235,000 barrels per day (b/d).
