Egypt’s Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority Chairman Yasser Ramadan met In2Metals Chairman Naguib Sawiris to discuss expanding gold exploration and attracting fresh investment to Egypt’s Eastern Desert.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of Egypt Mining Forum 2026, focused on Egypt’s geological potential and ways to improve the mining investment climate, including bringing in more capital, technical expertise and exploration technologies.
Sawiris reaffirmed his interest in expanding gold exploration in Egypt and participating in future bidding rounds under the Open Blocks System. Such investment could support exploration and expand the country’s mineral resource base.
Ramadan also accompanied Sawiris on a tour of the forum’s geological and mineral exhibits, where they reviewed samples highlighting Egypt’s geological diversity and mineral potential.
Earlier, in October 2025, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met Naguib Sawiris to discuss expanding gold exploration and investment in Egypt. The talks covered efforts to develop the country’s gold sector and strengthen cooperation between the government and private investors.
The latest meeting comes as Egypt continues to develop its mining sector and attract investment into gold exploration, particularly in the Eastern Desert, where the government is seeking to expand exploration activity and build a larger resource base.
