Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority Chairman Yasser Ramadan met Turkish company OZ Mining to review gold exploration cooperation in Egypt’s Eastern Desert and assess the potential for further work.
On the sidelines of Egypt Mining Forum 2026, the two sides followed up on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering preliminary studies and evaluations of gold occurrences and associated minerals in targeted areas.
Ramadan and OZ Mining representatives also reviewed findings from a recent joint field visit. OZ Mining described the results as encouraging, citing positive indications that warrant further study and evaluation of the areas examined.
The parties agreed to maintain coordination and continue the technical work needed to complete studies and assessments under the MoU. The findings could support the next stages of cooperation between MRMIA and OZ Mining.
The latest talks follow an MoU signed in June 2026 between MRMIA and OZ Mining to explore gold and associated minerals in the Eastern Desert. The agreement followed discussions in Türkiye in April and subsequent meetings between the two sides.
At the time, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said the cooperation supported efforts to attract international mining investment and encourage companies to expand their activities in Egypt. OZ Mining CEO Taner Yılmaz said the company aimed to operate at full capacity in Egypt and benefit from incentives introduced by the ministry.
