Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority Chairman Yasser Ramadan met representatives of the EBRD and World Bank to strengthen cooperation, secure support and build Egypt’s mining capabilities.
On the sidelines of Egypt Mining Forum 2026, Ramadan discussed with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) the implementation of their memorandum of understanding (MoU), which aims to improve the Authority’s operational framework and technical and institutional performance.
The two sides also reviewed capacity-building programs for the Authority’s technical staff, including skills development, knowledge exchange and training. The EBRD will also provide expertise in mineral resources management, governance, planning and developing Egypt’s mining investment environment.
Ramadan separately met a World Bank delegation to discuss financing for development and capacity-building projects. He presented proposals covering specialized training, technical missions, and the exchange of expertise and technologies in mineral exploration and mining. The proposals also included developing mining centers and the Geological Museum to support training, knowledge and public awareness.
The talks build on an MoU signed between MRMIA and the EBRD in May 2026 to support reforms to Egypt’s mining regulatory framework. The agreement established technical cooperation focused on aligning regulations and governance with international practices, while supporting capacity building and reviewing incentives for early-stage exploration. The signing was witnessed by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi.
