MIDTAP Achieves Unprecedented Growth in Petroleum Trading, Zero Accidents, Injuries in 2024

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi attended the General Assembly meeting of the Middle East Oil Tankage & Pipelines (MIDTAP) company to discuss its 2024 performance.

During the meeting, Badawi emphasized the company’s important role within the framework of the second pillar of the Ministry’s strategy to maximize the use of infrastructure and enhance Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub.

He also emphasized the importance of continuing to adhere to occupational health and safety regulations, given the positive indicators the company has achieved in this field.

The Chairman and Managing Director of MIDTAP, Hasanen Mohamad Hasanen, reviewed the company’s most significant results, which were focused on maximizing its capabilities to become one of the most important centers for storing and trading petroleum products in the Mediterranean region.

He stated that 2024 was an exceptional year in its history, achieving unprecedented figures in the quantities of petroleum products traded through MIDTAP’s facilities.

The activation of the night navigation system for the company’s marine dock at Dekheila Port and the 24-hour management of the ship berth process, in cooperation between MIDTAP and its partners at MIDOR and EPROM, had a significant impact on achieving success and an unprecedented leap in performance indicators, as Hasanen said.

The company’s marine dock received 153 tankers in 2024, compared to 63 tankers in 2023, in light of the reduction of ship berth periods. The total volume of petroleum products traded on the company’s marine dock reached 4.7 million tons in 2024, compared to 1.6 million tons in 2023.

Hasanen also highlighted the company’s important role in transporting crude oil from SUMED company’s receiving system in Sidi Kerir to the MIDOR refinery in Alexandria, where it is refined and converted into high-value petroleum products.

Besides, he affirmed the company’s commitment to applying the highest standards of occupational health and safety and environmental protection in order to provide a safe and clean work environment.

In this respect the company has recorded no accidents or injuries and approximately 590,000 safe work hours for workers and contractors during 2024, bringing the total number of safe work hours to 5.7 million since January 2012, driven by the risk control system and work permits within the company’s sites.

In the field of digital transformation, Hasanen noted the completion of linking all company departments to the ERP workflow automation program during the first quarter of this year.

He pointed out the completion of the implementation of the social responsibility projects plan during the past year, with a value of EGP 30 million, in coordination with the EGPC and the Ministry’s Supreme Committee for Social Responsibility.

The most prominent projects that contributed to improving the quality of life were in the Al-Amiriya district in Alexandria, developing Basra village, providing the University Hospital in Alexandria with a device for disposing of hazardous medical waste, contributing to the establishment of the emergency and critical cases building at Al-Iman General Hospital in Assiut, implementing development projects in a number of villages in Matrouh Governorate, equipping a play area for children with disabilities in Suez, and training medical personnel in Matrouh hospitals.
