Madbouly Opens $116M Renewable Energy Complex in Sokhna

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has inaugurated a Chinese technology industrial complex dedicated to manufacturing components for renewable energy projects within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), according to a statement by the Cabinet.

Located inside the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA)  in Sokhna, the $116 million complex marks a strategic milestone in Egypt’s efforts to become a regional hub for green economy industries, aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

The inauguration, which took place at the start of the Prime Minister’s tour of the SCZONE, included the launch of two major production facilities. The first, EliTe Solar Suez Technology, focuses on solar cell manufacturing with an investment of $40 million and an annual production capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The second facility, Elite Solar Green Energy, specialises in solar panels and related electronic components, representing a $76 million investment with a production capacity of 3 GW. Together, the two plants are expected to create approximately 860 direct and 170 indirect jobs.

“This complex represents a significant step toward localising renewable energy industries in Egypt,” Prime Minister Madbouly stated during the opening. He highlighted the project’s role in attracting advanced technological investments and supporting national green economy initiatives.

During his tour of the facilities, Madbouly was informed that the local component in the output of the facilities has reached 50%, a percentage that Madbouly hailed, noting that renewable energy is a vital industry, which Egypt is striving to localize its requirements alongside other key industries

The SCZONE has emerged as a primary destination for “Green Economy” investments with total investments of $18 billion, including infrastructure.

EliTe Solar Boda New Energy will operate the complex. The Chinese company was founded in 2005 and is currently headquartered in Singapore. EliTe Solar is a global leader in the photovoltaic sector, with existing manufacturing hubs in Vietnam and Indonesia. In 2024, the company signed a project to establish an 8 GW solar manufacturing hub in Egypt.
