Madbouly: No More Electricity Cuts or Load Reductions Planned

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has announced that there will be no more electricity cuts and load reduction measures during the coming period, denying rumors of imminent power outages during September.

He noted this is due to the government’s endeavors to secure the country’s needs for fuel during the past period.

Madbouly explained, “We are working to secure fuel shipments and managing the entire system to prevent power outages and avoid a significant fuel bill this coming summer, as we experienced over the past two months.”

He also mentioned that the government is planning to add 4 gigawatts of renewable energy in the coming year, allocating an additional EGP 7 billion to the Ministry of Electricity to implement these projects before next summer.

Additionally, Madbouly emphasized the collaboration between the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to optimize energy generation from power stations while minimizing fuel consumption. “This is achieved by creating a specific blend of natural gas and diesel,” he elaborated.

He also dismissed rumors that the Zohr field is depleting, clarifying that the issue is linked to a suspension of investment in oil fields and the lack of large-scale production due to delays in settling foreign partners’ arrears.

The Prime Minister refuted reports questioning Egypt’s capacity to generate natural gas, highlighting that substantial quantities are available and attributing the issue to the need for foreign partners to resume investment.

“We have successfully concluded bilateral agreements facilitated by the Ministry of Petroleum, and productivity will gradually return to its previous levels across all Egyptian fields. We hope this will be achieved before next summer, as it will significantly reduce our import bill,” he stated.
