Libyan Refinery Hit by Explosion

Libya’s Marsa El-Brega refinery was hit by an explosion and fire during the early hours of March 10th after a gas leak at its methanol plant, Platts reported.

Firefighters put out the fire, however damage extent and impact on the refinery’s output was not immediately clear.

Marsa al-Brega is located in Libya’s eastern oil crescent and is operated by the Sirte Oil Company, a subsidiary of the Libyan National Oil Company. Marsa El-Berga can refine around 10,000 barrels per day (b/d) of crude oil.

In other news, a liquefied petroleum gas truck owned by the Brega Oil Marketing Company crashed on the desert road to Tobruk. The accident led to no human losses, according to Libya Observer.
