EU Energy Commissioner to Visit Egypt for 3 Days

EU Commissioner for Energy and Climate Action Miguel Arias Cañete will arrive in Cairo on April 22nd for a three-day visit, during which several meetings will be held to review ways to increase cooperation between Egypt and the EU, Egypt Oil & Gas reports.

The EU will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreement with Egypt on energy during the visit, according to El Ahram Newspaper.

The visit will include a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, the Ministry of Petroleum announced in a press release.

Moreover, the Egyptian and EU delegations will hold an extended session of talks to review meetings held in Brussels during December 2017, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla stated, adding that Egypt’s ambition to become a regional energy trading hub will also be discussed.

“Egypt is becoming an upcoming important gas and electricity hub that can provide energy security for the EU and for the entire region,” said Cañete in an EU press release.
