The Egyptian Refining Company (ERC) has conducted assessments of the economic and educational needs of residents living in the neighborhood adjacent to the company, said Hani Ismail, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager at ERC, according to Amwal Al Ghad.
The studies indicated that economic and educational conditions need to improve to provide better opportunities to the neighbourhood’s residents.
The company has contributed to developing around 40 schools and providing 3,204 instances of in-kind assistance to underprivileged students. Ismail also revealed that the ERC assisted the training of 647 teachers to provide better education to the area’s youth, and that the company has designed a future program for scholarships as part of its CSR strategy.
The ERC allocates between $2 million and $3 million for CSR on an annual basis.
ERC recently held its second annual conference for its Future Teachers Program. This educational initiative includes awarding 30 teachers with scholarships to study in the American University in Cairo (AUC), according to Amwal Al Ghad.
The conference was held on March 5th within the ERC location, and allowed teachers to familiarize themselves with the latest and most important developments in the construction of the Mostorod refinery, scheduled to open this year.
