EPC Targets 120,000 Tons PVC Expansion

Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has approved the 2026/2027 investment budget for the Egyptian Petrochemicals Company (EPC), emphasizing the company’s pivotal role in localizing the production of essential materials for secured documents and national industries.

The company reported its operational performance for the first half (H1) of fiscal year (FY) 2025/2026, according to a statement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MoPMR). The company’s Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) production reached a five-year high of 41,000 tons, while caustic soda achieved the planned target of 60,000 tons. Moreover, EPC has completed a feasibility study for a new production line with an annual capacity of 120,000 tons.

Speaking during the company’s General Assembly, Badawi lauded the company’s success in producing high-quality PVC, specifically the grades required for manufacturing national ID cards, banking cards, and various currency-related documents.

The assembly was held in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, along with the Ministers of Electricity and Local Development.

A key milestone presented by EPC Chairman Ahmed Mowakea was the localization and resumed production of PVC K57. This specific grade, which had been out of production for nearly 30 years, is now being produced to meet the high technical standards required for the state’s secure document sector.

Badawi reaffirmed the Ministry’s full support for EPC, noting that the consistent supply of ethane-rich natural gas feedstock over the past year has been a primary driver for the sector’s increased output.

Beyond document security, the company’s medical-grade PVC has gained significant traction, receiving formal accreditation and praise from the Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) and major medical supply manufacturers for its compliance with international quality standards.

EPC continues to build on the momentum of the previous fiscal year, where it successfully met 100% of its production targets, delivering over 30,000 tons of PVC and 55,000 tons of caustic soda.
