The Egypt Oil & Gas (EOG) Technical Committee has gathered on September 5 at the Kuwait Energy Egypt premises to discuss the activities that will take place during its 2nd Upstream Operational Excellence Convention. The event will happen in December under the High Patronage of His Excellence Eng. Tarek El Molla, Egypt’s minister of petroleum.
The convention brings together representatives of national and international oil companies (NOCs and IOCs), and service companies to share and discuss best practices to optimize operations and increase production. It also presents a Young Professionals Day to encourage the career development of young professionals in the sector, in addition to the inaugural Operations Excellence Awards, in which field engineers will receive recognition for innovative practices.
Besides the convention, the committee followed up with the topics recently discussed by the new EOG Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Subcommittee. The subcommittee members had their first meeting on September 3 to establish their goals and approaches, which look at promoting CSR awareness in the Egyptian oil and gas sector, and increasing participation in social programs and community services.
Additionally, EOG introduced its new Research & Analysis (R&A) department. The R&A division recently published a report entitled “The Economic Reform Program: Tracking the Implications for Egypt’s Petroleum Sector,” and is currently working on a natural gas report entitled “Egypt: the Future Regional Natural Gas Hub”. The department is also preparing the Oil & Gas Agreements Reference Book, which will be the first reference book of its kind in Egypt.
The technical committee also welcomed five new members to its board: Karim Badawi, Managing Director of Egypt and East Mediterranean at Schlumberger; Hussam Abuseif, Director and General Manager Egypt, Sudan, and South Sudan at Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE); Sameh Sabry, DEA Country Manager; Hussein Fouad El Ghazzawy, Schlumberger former Vice President and General Manager; and Marwan El Shazly, Petroleum Services Marketing and Contracts Manager at Pan Marine.
