Eni, BP Express Interest in Majnoon

Eni and BP have expressed interest in taking over operations from Royal Dutch Shell at Iraq’s Majnoon oilfield, Reuters reports.

“BP and Italy’s Eni have approached the oil ministry last month to show interest in developing Majnoon after Shell exits the field,” an oil official told Reuters.

Shell will turn over operation of the oilfield next year, Reuters previously reported.

The company announced in September that it would hand over its operations at Majnoon to the Iraqi oil ministry due to unfavorable financial conditions, the news agency reported.

BP and Eni both operate in Iraq. BP operates the Rumaila oilfield while Eni operates the Zubair oilfield, according to Reuters.

Chevron and Total have also expressed interest in the field.

The oilfield produces approximately 235,000 barrels per day.
