The Egyptian Electricity sector is planning to finalize several projects to transform 4.3 kilometers (km) of overhead power lines into underground cables, according to a source in the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Amwal Al Ghad reports.
The projects include the conversion of the overhead line in East Cairo, Gardenia through the East Cairo station to Al-Sakakeen Area.
The projects aim to transform 220 kilovalts into 4.3 km of underground cables, with a cost of approximately EGP 185 million, the source added.
According to the ministry source, the project also aims to transform the overhead lines passing over residential buildings to reroute some of them. The total duration of the project is estimated to be 3 months after the needed approvals to get started.
The source pointed out that the electricity sector has already converted 1,045 km of the medium voltage overhead lines.
