Investments that support production and development projects in the electricity sector have reached around EGP 53 billion during fiscal year (FY) 2019/2020, Amwal Al Ghad reported.

The Ministry of Electricity aims to add 1,950 megawatts (MW) to the capacity of the national electricity grid, increasing its total capacity with 2.6% to reach 60,067 MW.

The sector also plans to boost its generating capacity to about 195.8 million MW, which is a 4.2 increase from FY 2018/2019. In addition, fuel consumption is to be decreased by a 2.9% from FY 2018/2019.

The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) signed seven contracts worth EGP 656.3 million with the Egyptian German Electrical Manufacturing Company (EGEMAC) earlier in April 2019 to develop the national electricity grid.
