Electricity Minister inspects Opearations of Rare Earth Minerals at Abu Zenima

During an official field visit to the Nuclear Materials Authority (NMA) field center in the Abu Zenima area, South Sinai, Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, reviewed ongoing operations, inspected production facilities, and assessed actual performance rates and the latest developments at the site.

Furthermore, he inspected the manufacturing lines and the exploration, evaluation, and mining activities for rare earth minerals and metals, which are essential inputs for advanced technological and electronic industries.This comes in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to advance the utilization of rare earth elements and maximize the economic value of the country’s natural resources.

According to a statement by the cabinet, Hamed Mira, Chairman of the Nuclear Materials Authority, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the strategic importance of the Abu Zenima field center, its operational plan, and its role within the Authority’s broader network of nine field centers distributed nationwide. He emphasized the center’s significance due to the major field and technological projects currently under implementation.

Esmat also discussed the geological characteristics of available minerals, extraction and processing methods, and the challenges associated with these operations with the Authority’s experts. Discussions also addressed the additional support required to enhance the center’s role within the framework of Sinai’s development strategy, particularly in relation to mining and mineral-based industries.

He reiterated the Ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary resources, advanced technologies, and equipment required to ensure the continuity of operations and the targeted outcomes. He concluded the visit by expressing appreciation for the efforts exerted by the staff and teams working at the site.

The NMA is a national research and exploration body responsible for surveying, evaluating, and developing Egypt’s radioactive and strategic mineral resources. It conducts geological studies, exploration programs, and extraction activities to support the country’s nuclear, industrial, and economic development plans.
